Circa 1870 Victorian Ruby and Diamond Ring

Hand Cut natural Ruby year 1870
3537

This ring was handmade of 10 karat yellow gold. The setting holds a nice hand cut natural Ruby of 75 points. Most Rubies were mined in Burma in this time period and each stone mined was quite treasured.

Rubies are precious stones and a member of the corundum family. Rubies range in color from the classic deep red to pink to purple to brown. Rubies are extremely hard; only diamonds are harder. During the renaissance, people thought that rubies could counteract poison.

The ring is also set with two small single cut diamonds on each side of the Ruby. It is now a Size 5 and can be resized, which I will be happy to have done for you if needed, and this does not decease the value of the ring in any way. The ring and gemstones are in excellent condition.
