Handmade gold work of 9 karat yellow gold marked 10 karat on the ring’s band when resized a few years ago. The bloodstone is a natural gemstone and was hand cut and polished, hand set in the gold work.
About Bloodstone Gemstones:
Medieval Christians often used bloodstone to carve scenes of the crucifixion and martyrs, for which reason it was also dubbed the martyr's stone. According to the legend about the origin of bloodstone, it was first formed when drops of Christ's blood fell and stained some jasper at the foot of the cross. A beautiful example of carved bloodstone with the seal of the German emperor Rudolf II can be seen at the Louvre in Paris.
Bloodstone was also called heliotrope by the Greeks and was thought to bring change. The bloodstone has been used as an amulet to protect against the evil eye. Bloodstone is the symbol of justice. This bloodstone is 10.5 x 7 mm in size with the weight of gemstone 2.85 carats. The ring is a Size 7 1/4 and could be easily resized. The ring is in excellent condition with the current insured value of $1150.00 as of March 2012.
