The gold setting is a classic setting that is ageless, although each setting is different from another, since each item of jewelry is custom made the setting is called “crown set”. The ring is set with a 10.8 carat hand cut and hand set a natural Citrine gemstone. Today most Citrines are heat treaded Amethyst and not natural stones. In the time in history that this ring was made all stones were natural mined stones and not treated in any way.
Citrine Information
Citrine is a variety of quartz ranging in colors of yellow, yellow-brown, orange, dark orange-brown, reddish-brown. Citrine crystals can form together with amethyst or smoky quartz to form a bi-colored quartz called ametrine.
Natural citrine was found in the Ural Mountains of Russia, in Dauphine, France, and in Madagascar in the Victorian time period.
Folklore, Legend, Healing Properties:
Citrine is a golden yellow form of quartz which takes its name from "citron", the French word for lemon.
In former times Citrine was used as a protective talisman against the plague, bad skin and evil thoughts, and as a charm against snake bites and other venomous reptiles. It is also believed to symbolize happiness.
The ring is large on the hand with the gemstone size being ¾ tall x ½ of an inch wide. The gold work and gemstone are in excellent condition and a size 63/4 now but could be resized easily.
