Circa 1860 Civil War Era Serpent “Snake” Ring with Diamond from Maryland

Civil War Era Gold Diamond Snake Ring
Victorian Serpant ring with diamond
4206

The is a great Victorian serpent ring all handmade of 9 karat yellow gold and set with a hand cut natural Diamond gemstone. The snake became a cherished symbol of eternal love, popularized by Queen Victoria, whose engagement ring given to her by Albert was this design of serpent jewelry. The natural diamond is .10 point of a carat, and is a nice bright gemstone. It is Circa 1860 with nice detail in the design of the scales on the snake. Maker’s marks: I would think American made I do not know for sure, also an 10 kt mark for the karat of gold, that was just stamped in a few years ago when it was tested and stamped for the gold karat that would be used to resize the ring. The ring size is a 9 ½ and would be harder to resize because of the detail of the many rings on the snake. Wonderful condition and fine to wear, the ring is ½ inches at the tallest area of the band. Nice original period ring.
