This setting is handmade of 15 karat yellow gold and set with a great hand polished natural deeply colored Amethyst gemstone. The stone is a cabochon which is hand polished and is 6.5 carats of gemstone.
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz and the most valued member of the quartz family. It must be purple to be amethyst, but it can display a range of shades including deep purple, light lilac, lavender and mauve. Top quality amethyst is a deep medium purple with rose-colored flashes. Its purple color made it a stone of royalty for many thousands of years.
The pendant is on a new 16 inch or 18 inch chain (your choice as to the length) but this pendant was originally worn with a ribbon. It is in excellent condition.
