Civil War Era Bohemian Garnet Pendant

3630

This nicely designed pendant is set in a handmade frame of 12 karat yellow gold. It has 12 natural garnet gemstones hand cut and hand set around a larger center garnet of 1 .25 carats. The Bohemian garnets were used in jewelry in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance Period and highly desired in the 19th Century. The garnets were mined in Bohemia, Saxony and Scotland. In the language of the Gemstones, during the Victorian time, garnets represented “Virtue”. This is circa 1860 and a nice size of pendent to wear with casual or dress. The pendant’s size is 1 inch long with the bale and just over ½ of an inch at the widest part. It was worn with a ribbon in the Civil War time period but a new gold chain will be provided with the pendant.
