This circa 1870 handmade pendant in which the setting is made of 9 karat tested yellow gold. This is set with hand cut onyx stones and set into the intricate gold work. The onyx serves as a mourning color and that is why this stone was used and the seed pearls used in mourning jewelry represent “Tears”. The pendant has the original bale also carved of Onyx and set with gold. The pendant is from Pennsylvania and the size is 1 1/8 inches tall and ¼ inches wide. This is lovely and quality made piece of Victorian jewelry which come with a new 14kt gold chain. It is in excellent condition and fine to wear with modern clothing.
